What Is Absinthe?

Absinthe is an alcoholic liquor made from a blend of herbs. Among the most popular herbs used for production are anise, licorice, hyssop, fennel and most importantly, wormwood (artemesia absinthium). Absinthe is also known as the Green Fairy ("La Fee Verte") and is often characterized by its green colour. This green colour comes normally from the blend of herbs used, though certain modern absinthes are clear as well.

Most modern commercial absinthes have high alcohol concentrations ranging from 40% - 70% (80 - 140 proof). However, most also have a low level of thujone (the active chemical in wormwood). Absinthes supposed special effects of greater clarity of thought and creativity comes from the mixture of the high concentration of alcohol and the mixture of herbs including wormwood.

The Effects of Absinthe

Absinthe is often said to have a "special effect". This Absinthe effect is often attributed to the high level of thujone that is found in the original production of the drink. These effects are often contested however and no scientific study has ever been done to fully confirm the validity of what is commonly accepted by absinthe connoisseurs.

After dilution with water, a glass containing absinthe became a very mild anise flavor, available for you to savor the refreshing drink, you could not help but rise to the long summer days in southern France, vision and memory. Not mixed with water directly for drinking should be avoided because of the dilution adjustment absinthe taste is very strong against the former and not tasty. In addition to high alcohol content (traditionally higher than 68%) outside the main component of absinthe wormwood (wormwood) herb (ie, foreign Ai (Artemisiaabsinthium)). This bitter herb called wormwood contains the brain (thujone) of chemicals, the chemical is very similar to the active chemical components in marijuana THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). Scientists in the twentieth century, sixty to seventy years of research and analysis shows that this similarity is not accidental. The two chemicals are terpenoids. This means "wormwood THC through the brain and central nervous system receptors in the common drug interactions and efficacy have to be mental illness," the scientists write in their JdelCastillo absinthe and marijuana similarity between the efficacy of psychological An article (Nature Magazine, January 31, 1975) in the case said. And LaFée vermouth different, some of the same period, foreign brands may not use Ai brewing, so the brain does not contain wormwood, but not the strict sense of the vermouth. See the back of any trademark absinthe label, if you see a reference to absinthe (wormwood) juice or infusion, you may also see the wormwood in parentheses (Artemisiavulgaris). This herb is a member of Artemisia subjects, the brain does not contain wormwood and is often referred to as "Artemisia (Mugwort)". Brain alcohol and wormwood are anesthetic, so we suggest you moderate drinking absinthe. In short, people feel a kind of wormwood, not just experience the feeling of drunkenness, but not as hallucinogens (eg LSD) effect.
